Dr. Alex Smith
Dr. Smith grew up in Bend. He has always loved Central Oregon and his home town. Growing up Dr. Smith enjoyed snowboarding, playing soccer, golfing, fishing, Boy Scouts (he was an Eagle Scout) and drumming in school and social bands. In 2004, Dr. Smith graduated from Summit High School and headed to the University of Oregon. Go Ducks! Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelors in Human Physiology and a double minor in business and chemistry.
Dr. Smith then started his 10 year out of state journey by attending The Ohio State University for his dental education. It was during dental school that Dr. Smith’s passion for comprehensive dental care, surgery, and digital technology was born and nurtured. This is also where Dr. Smith met Dr. Tom Spoonster and their friendship began.
After he graduated from the The Ohio State University and he served as a Captain in the United States Army for four years. Dr. Smith was stationed in Seoul, South Korea and FT Bragg, North Carolina where he worked closely and collaborated with many dental specialists, oral surgeons, periodontists, endodontists, prosthodontists and orthodontists.
Dr. Smith fulfilled his four year commitment in the ARMY and then transitioned into full time private practice. He worked hard to become the skilled surgeon and comprehensive dentist that he is today through working at multiple offices focusing on advanced life changing dental procedures while serving the citizens of North Carolina.
Although Dr. Smith has practiced dentistry, lived and traveled a fair amount of the world; his dream has always been to return home to the community where he spent his childhood and open his own dental practice to serve his community. Dr. Tom Spoonster and Dr. Smith’s friendship grew stronger each year since they met and they decided they would to take a leap of faith, move to Bend, OR and open a dental practice. They share the same core values including compassion, integrity and striving for excellence in dental care.
During the transition process of moving back home Dr. Smith and Dr. Tom were introduced to the founders of Denture Artistry Implants-Crowns-Veneers Dr. Cameron Edwards and Renee Raujol. Dr. Cam is an exceptional dentist who with the help of his wife and founding partner created a unique practice model. Our model’s core focus is to help people achieve affordable, high quality dental care with an exceptional patient experience.
Dr. Cam, like Dr. Smith and Dr. Tom, was saddened that they often had to remove teeth with no plan of replacement because their patients could not afford the best dental options; to save their teeth, replace them with implants or implant supported dentures. Our founders focused on making the most expensive disciplines of dentistry more affordable. Our Practice achieves this by eliminating insurance driven billing/collections department, utilizing state of the art technology and a full service in house dental lab to increase efficiency and quality control. We pass the savings onto our Patient’s by reducing our fee’s 30-40% relative to usual and customary fees in Central Oregon.
When Dr. Smith was offered the opportunity to purchase Denture Artistry Implants-Crowns-Veneers, his dreams of coming home and partnering with Dr. Tom became a reality. Together now they focus on elaborating and embellishing an amazing practice model that was created by their Founders to provide the freedom for patients to afford life changing, optimal dental care, with an exceptional patient experience.
Their dream of delivering high quality, life changing dental care to his home community came to fruition. He reached out to his longtime friend and colleague Dr. Spoonster to take on this opportunity together. Dr. Smith and Dr. Spoonster believe that doing what is right for the patient while relying on sound, evidence-based dental practices will lead them to clinical success while abiding by their strong moral compass.
What sets Dr. Smith and Dr. Spoonster apart at Denture Artistry, is their ability to deliver custom treatment to their patients on their patient’s terms and timeline. They achieve this by utilizing cutting edge technology and working with Denturists and lab technicians in their private, in house laboratory. Not only do they have the ability to deliver top of the line, comprehensive treatment for patients, they have the education to back it up.
Both Dr. Smith and Dr. Spoonster have extensively studied implantology, completed multiple continuing education courses, and most recently, an implant fellowship. This education is in addition to their dental education, and many years of clinical practice. Denture Artistry’s comprehensive treatment planning is a “whole mouth” versus a “tooth by tooth” approach. Using advanced technology, each patients underlying biology is examined and treatment is tailed to their needs. The result is long-lasting, highly esthetic, and functional restorations.Together now they focus on expanding an amazing practice model that was created by their Founders to provide the freedom for patients to afford life changing, optimal dental care, with an exceptional patient experience.
Dr. Tom Spoonster
Dr. Tom Spoonster was born and raised in northeast Ohio. He earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Dayton while majoring in pre-medicine/ pre-dentistry. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Dentistry where he met Dr. Alex Smith. They quickly became very good friends, bonding over mutual interests in music, skiing and snowboarding, and an eagerness to help others by keeping up with the latest and greatest ways to treat their patients. During their senior year in dental school, they traveled together to Dr. Smith’s hometown of Bend, OR, to ski Mt. Bachelor. It was then that Dr. Tom knew he would one day like to move west to enjoy more of the outdoor activities that are so prevalent there.
After Dental School he completed a general practice residency at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. There he received hands-on training with many representatives of the various dental specialties including endodontics, pediatrics, periodontics, oral surgery, and orthodontics. He also did full mouth rehabilitation for patients with developmental disabilities under general anesthesia in an OR setting. He felt that this time was important in gaining more experience in procedures such as root canals and implants so that he could better care for his patients.
After Residency Dr. Tom joined private practice in Columbus, Ohio and began practicing. He kept in contact with Dr. Smith and continued to express interest in moving out west. They decided to partner together, as Dr. Smith also wanted to move back to his hometown of Bend.
The two began researching where to practice when they found Denture Artistry Implants Crowns Veneers and its founders Dr. Cam Edwards and Renee Raujol-Edwards. They were both impressed by how the practice had been created with the idea of making the most expensive aspects of dentistry more affordable, all while utilizing the best technology for the job. Dr. Smith and Dr. Tom moved forward with their dream, joining Denture Artistry Implants Crowns Veneers and are excited to provide quality dentistry with compassionate care.
Dr. Tom continues to strive for excellence in what he does, having completed a implant fellowship program containing over 130 lecture hours of implantology, as well as a hands on implant course through University Implant Educators. He maintains membership with Dental XP that provides him with hours of continuing education courses. He is passionate in doing what is best for his patients Dr. Tom moved to Bend with his wife Allison in June of 2019. They are enjoying all that Central Oregon has to offer, including hiking, skiing, and mountain biking. They also love spending time with their cat Ron and dog Carl. Both Dr. Tom and Allison are eager to become involved in and serve the central Oregon area.
Dr. Cameron Edwards
Dr. Edwards sold his Walnut Creek, California private practice in 2003. He had dedicated his career to high-end aesthetic dentistry specializing in full mouth reconstructions. After selling his practice, he and his USC Dental School buddy purchased Rosemead Dental Lab. Dr. Edwards became a certified lab technician and together they operated a full service dental lab. He loved the training and education aspect of owning a dental lab but quickly realized he missed clinical dentistry and his patients.
In 2005, he merged his two skillsets of clinical dentistry with education and training. He became a Clinical Director for a large group practice overseeing the clinical direction, hiring and training of 35 offices and 155+ doctors. This is where Dr. Edwards and Renée Raujol’s story began.
Renée graduated from the University of Oregon in 1987 with a degree in International Studies. She had a very successful 28-year career in management, sales, marketing and business development with Corporate America; working for large companies such as May Co., Nike, a few internet start ups and finally, the remaining 13 years of her career with the largest dental supply company in the world, Dentsply Sirona. Their paths crossed in the corporate world of dentistry.

I am a MasterDenturist of 32 years and I’ve been making Dentures since I was the age of 12. I moved all the way from the state of Colorado to work with Denture Artistry because like myself they truly care about their patients and the treatment they receive. I am truly blessed and excited to be a part of such a passionate and dedicated group of care givers and could not be happier with my move from Colorado.
Growing up in Oregon I’ve learned to love the Oregonian lifestyle and being in Bend has allowed me to continue that lifestyle to the fullest. Working at Denture Artistry Implants, Crowns, and Veneers has allowed and improved my ability to care of the community and my patients to the fullest. The combination of those two things has made me very grateful and has made it easy to approach life with a positive attitude that translates into my work. My goal each day is to make a positive change in someone’s life, hopefully starting with your smile. I love getting to know my patients and helping restore their confidence with the highest quality of removable prosthetics in the area. If I’m not in the clinic you can find me on the local lakes and rivers indulging in my passion for fly fishing or enjoying all that Bend has to offer with the love of my life. I’m happy to be here and would be happy to get to know you and help take care of your dental needs.

Surgical dental Assistant
Caring for and putting a smile on people’s faces has always been a second nature for me. Working in dentistry has given me the opportunity to fulfill this passion and be an intimate part of making a difference in people’s lives on a daily basis. Nothing makes me more gratified than being part of turning an insecurity into a source of confidence. Assisting doctors like Dr. Tom and Dr. Smith, who share the same ethical compassion is a daily reminder as to why I chose this field to work in. Working with a like-minded team has created a comprehensive level of care that has made me one of the rare few that look forward to work every day. I look forward to the opportunity of getting to know my patients on a personal level and making them feel comfortable and cared for with genuine compassion. I’m happy to sit chair side to help provide the best dental experience to you.
I jumped at the opportunity to leave my hometown and move to Bend to be part of this team and pursue my hobbies and desires outside of dentistry. Those include anything outside such as hiking with my dog, camping along some of the prettiest scenery in all of Oregon, and fly fishing with my better half on some of the highest regarded fisheries in the country. Being a part of the amazing team here at Denture Artistry Implants Crowns and Veneers, and living in Bend, has fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine. I feel honored to be here and would feel even more honored to be a part of putting a smile on your face.

Hey there! My names Maria and I am a Personal Experience Coordinator and Dental Assistant for Denture Artistry. I enjoy exploring our beautiful Oregon and going to the gym! I graduated June of 2020 with my Dental Assisting Certification and 2 Associates. I met Dr. Smith through his volunteer work for COCC’s low income clinic and was immediately drawn by how kind and knowledgeable he was not only with the patients but also with us as students. As students he was always asking us questions, keeping us on our toes, and explaining to ensure our understanding. As my educational career came to an end I began my practicum at Denture Artistry and couldn’t have been more delighted by all the caring and experienced people around me. Here at Denture Artistry we believe we can change the world one smile at a time and I couldn’t agree more! I love being part of not just the mission but also a family who strives for affordable state of the art care.
